Version 9 was being designed with a custom, welded aluminum core in mind. The cost of building such a core however was vastly prohibitive. While a custom extrusion die would have cost far more, the per unit cost would have been more than sufficient. The financial risks involved with developing a custom core would have been more than unbearable. Get one thing wrong and the die could become unusable. five (5) welded cores could have been produced for the cost of one (1) die.
The only plus of version 9 was and still is the enclosure design; which as not changed since. Originally the idea was to use Poly-carbonate to enclose the machine, however with the cost and tenancy to scratch easily, Acrylic was chosen instead.
